If you or your company owns 2007 or 2008 diesel pick-ups or "on-road" heavy-duty diesel trucks, you may be wondering why the truck manufacturer is so adamant about using motor oil that meets the American Petroleum Institute (API) "CJ-4" specification in the engine. You may be wondering if you can "get by" with a motor oil that does not show this designation on the label. The answer is NO! You cannot "get by" with a diesel engine oil meeting the older API "CI-4" or "CI-4 PLUS" specifications in these engines. There is a high probability that expensive damage will be the result if you try.
How did all of this start? A few years back, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) decided that starting in the 2007 model year, strict new limits were going to be placed on the emissions of on-road diesel engines in heavy duty and pick-up applications. This would limit the amount of nitrogen oxide and particulate matter emitted by the exhaust pipe. The EPA determined that through a combination of engine redesign, ultra-low-sulfur diesel (ULSD) fuel and new engine oil technology, these new vehicles would cut harmful pollution by 95 percent.
The most important of these engine changes are the addition of exhaust after-treatment devices and increased exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) rates. Both of these changes demanded a dramatically different approach to formulating a diesel engine oil.
The exhaust after-treatment devices being used are "diesel particulate filters". These particulate filters remove soot from the exhaust allowing for much cleaner emissions. Collected particulate matter is cleared from the filter by burning it off at elevated operating temperatures. Older generations of diesel engine oils contained additives which can plug or damage particulate filters. The new CJ-4 engine oils have strict limits on sulfur, sulfated ash and phosphorus content. A plugged or damaged particulate filter is not only very expensive to clean or replace, it can cause severe drops in fuel economy due to increased back pressure.
Another important change mandated by the EPA was to lower the sulfur content of diesel fuel by a whopping 97%. Beginning in September 2006, the sulfur levels in diesel fuel (for on-road use) were limited to 15 parts per million (ppm) from 500 ppm. This was done so that the fuel would not damage the new exhaust after-treatment devices. This was a concern to many as sulfur was a vital additive that provided lubrication to fuel pumps and injectors. The fuel companies were not mandated to replace the sulfur with another component to provide pump and injector lubrication. It is a good idea to add an aftermarket fuel additive to your diesel fuel to prevent premature pump and injector wear. This is a good idea for all diesel engines using ULSD fuel. Make sure that the additive is designed to provide fuel system lubrication and that it is compatible with exhaust particulate filters and ULSD fuel.
With the exhaust filter removing the particulate matter from the emission, the task of removing nitrogen oxide is accomplished by increasing exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) rates by as much as 35%. EGR devices redirect some of the exhaust gases normally emitted through the exhaust pipe, back into the engine. This rate increase generates more soot and acids as well as increasing operating temperatures. This was another reason for the radical changes in the design of the CJ-4 specification. These new hostile operating conditions require that the engine oil have a greater resistance to heat, a greater dispersant package to handle the higher levels of soot and a greater ability to prevent depositing and oxidation. CJ-4 oils are also less volatile which means that they are more resistant to consumption.
CJ-4 oils will offer the ultimate in performance and protection for post-2007 diesel engines. To remove the nuisance of fleets having to stock different diesel motor oils for trucks built before and after the 2007 model year, CJ-4 oils are designed to be "backwards compatible" with pre-2007 diesel engines. Fleet owners can stock only one CJ-4 diesel motor oil to service all of their diesel trucks.

The first generation Honda Accord was launched in 1976 as a two-door hatchback with 68 horsepower (51 kW), a 93. Honda chose the name Accord, reflecting "Honda's desire for accord and harmony between people, society and the automobile. It has achieved considerable success, especially in the USA, where it was the best-selling Japanese car for 15 years (1982-97), and became the first Japanese-branded vehicle to be manufactured in the US. The Accord became the first Japanese car to be produced in the US in 1982, when production commenced in Marysville, Ohio at Marysville Auto Plant where cars were produced and exported back to Japan. The Honda Accord has been sold in most automotive markets throughout the world. The European Honda Accord, also made in Sweden, became very different from its cousins in terms of styling, and was also shorter than the JDM and USDM Accords.
The Car
The Accord was originally planned to be a V6-powered car with a long hood and sporty pretensions. Vastly improved quality control, however, made this one of the most reliable cars on the US market, a position it still holds today. This was one of the first US production cars to feature optic reflectors with completely clear lenses on the headlamps replacing the more conventional sealed beam styled lighting. A little-known fact about the 1998 Accord was that it was assembled in New Zealand at the very end of overall New Zealand CKD car production (due to changes in tariffs for car importation in that country). The Next Generation

With rising gas prices and the increasing threat to environmental issues presented by conventional automobiles, there is a cultural shift towards alternate methods of fuelling and operating vehicles. One such method is the hybrid electric vehicle. At one point and time in history, the electric car existed. Through a combination of government intervention, oil company wrangling, and advertising blunders, the electric car went the way of the dinosaur. In its place, the hybrid electric car appears to be the suitable compromise. Fans and owners of the electric car, however, will forever pine for better options.
The original hybrid car actually was introduced in 1901 by the form of a hybrid vehicle introduced by Ferdinand Porsche. The vehicle, which was called the "Mixte," was based off of other models and used a gasoline engine which powered a generator which, in turn, powered electric hub motors. The "Mixte" used a small battery pack for reliability and actually broke several Austrian speed records for land vehicles.
The 1915 "Dual Power" was another example of hybrid technology at work within automobiles. This model was made by the Woods Motor Vehicle company, which was a company that actually specialized in making electric cars. As the "Dual Power" drove below 15 mile per hour, the electric motor would alone drive the vehicle. As it sped up, the car would tap into its gasoline powered engine. By 1918, about 600 models of the "Dual Power" were made.
Time passed without much support from oil companies or some of the larger car companies, who believed that vehicles of this nature were not marketable to a large populous. As time passed into the 1960s and 1970s, the hybrid car once again reared its head in the form of Victor Wouk and his conversion of a Buick Skylark into a direct-current electric motor with a Mazda rotary engine for hybrid capabilities.
Wouk's vehicle was tested at the Environmental Protection Agency's emissions testing lab and it was shown that the converted car had gained over twice the fuel economy before the car was converted. The emission rates were only nine percent of those of a gas powered vehicle from that same era, making the converted vehicle a win-win situation.
Due to various issues throughout history, however, Wouk's hybrid car was once again pushed back in terms of major distribution. Despite the fact that the technology to operate a vehicle on less gasoline and oil has existed in a practical sense as early as 1901, the hybrid car is just now receiving a significant marketing push.
Oil companies with vested interests in local governments, governments with vested interests in oil companies, and all sorts of other political aspects are often blamed for the lack of marketing and information spread about the hybrid cars. With environmental concerns reaching an all-time high, however, it seems that more people than ever will begin to look at the story of hybrid cars and start to do what they can to save money on gas and what they can do to save emissions.

Honda Motor Co., a Japanese motorcycle and automobile maker, is planning to invest JPV 30 billion to build an engine plant in Guangzhou, the capital city of south China's Guangdong Province.
Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co., Ltd., a joint venture between Honda Motor Co. and China's Guangzhou Automobile Industry Group Co., Ltd., aims to begin the production in the new plant by 2009. The plan is to boost the company's engine production capacity in China - the world's second largest car market.
The new plant will be sustained with highly advance equipment. The company primarily plans to use the plant in making 2.4 L and 1.3 L engines, which will be fitted to several major Honda vehicles, including the Accord, Odyssey and Fit. It is expected to have a production capacity of 200,000 units a year.
According to a report from French new agency, Honda, however, has denied the news regarding its plan to establish a new engine plant.
Last year, the Japanese auto giant, also a maker of quality Acura CL ball joint and tie rod, achieved a record production of 352,500 vehicles in China, marking 132 percent improvement compared from the sales in 2005.
This year, the company is looking forward to produce approximately 42,000 vehicles in China for export, accounting to about 70 percent hike. This will lead the export model two-compartment Fit to be entirely turned out in the Guangzhou production base.
Honda China spokesperson Zhu Linjie revealed that the company would likely increase their export destinations throughout 12 countries in Europe this year.
In June 2005, Honda shipping the China-made two-compartment Fits to Germany. Later, the company also delivered it to many other countries around the globe. At the end of 2005, the Japanese auto maker was able to export the products to not just Germany, but also to Belgium, to the Netherlands, and to Austria; and, to Italy in 2006. Currently, it is selling those products to Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, and the UK.
Last July, Guangzhou Honda set up a wholly-owned R&D arm. It is to support the company in coping with the increasing customer demand for Honda models. By fact, it is the first time for a joint venture to establish its independent R&D unit within China - known as Guangzhou Honda Automobile Research and Development Co., Ltd. The unit will engage to model design, model trial production, vehicle testing, and parts R&D.
The venture also brought its second plant into operation in September of 2006. The plant serves as a significant help in boosting Honda Motor Co.'s total production capacity in China to about 530,000 vehicles annually.

Honda Accord in the UK will be celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. More than 15,800,000 units of the Accord were sold worldwide for its four decades in the market -- making it as one of the most popular cars in the world.
The very first Accord was sold in the UK in the year 1977 but was initially introduced in Japan and in the US. And after seven generations of good response from buyers, the Accord has finally emerged into an important corporate model equipped with the latest technology, great driving performance, a diesel engine, and a reputation for reliability and quality.
Honda has scheduled for the next-generation Accord to go on sale in the UK in the summer of 2008 while production versions of both Saloon and Tourer versions are to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
For this year, the Accord is part of the highly recommended of What Car? Reliability survey and was awarded as the "Most Reliable Model" in the Fleet News' respected industry survey or the FN50.

Honda Tops Used Car Survey Aside from the 30th anniversary of Honda Accord, the producer of high quality Acura CL headers, Honda has another reason to celebrate because it tops the British survey of used car reliability for the third consecutive year that is, basing on the announcement made by the automaker's Qatar distributor.
According to the Doha Marketing Services Company (Domasco) six of the top 10 vehicles in the survey conducted by What Car? are Honda models.
This survey is conducted annually in partnership with the independent British warranty provider Warranty Direct that analyzed data from over 35,000 vehicles, including 26 manufacturers and 133 different models with average number of faults per 100 cars produced.
The results: Honda's CR-V was ranked second with a total of five faults found per 100 cars. The other five Honda models included in the top 10 vehicles of What Car? reliability survey are as follows:

For this year model, there are no much changes; but still the 2007 Honda Accord EX V6 6-Speed is worth your time and money.
The 2007 model has reduced weight, especially at the rear where the full-width taillight decorate the '03-'05 models. A center stop light mounted in the rear window gives way to separate LED taillights mounted at the rear edge of the trunk. Minor revisions are also in the grille and front bumper. One difference of the 6-Speed from other V6 models is its 17-inch alloy wheels.
The EX trim is given an upscale specification by Accord's interior design, leather upholstery, and navigation system. Ambience is further improved by the 6-Speed's good soundproofing. The "carbon fiber-look" trim around the window of all 6-Speeds lifts on the doors and on the instrument panel and console give it a fitted sporty look.
Interior details include interior door panels scooped to further improve elbow room. Easy to see in all lights are the bright, back-lit instruments. For perfect driving position, heated, power-adjustable seats and a steering wheel manually-adjustable for both tilt and reach are available. Additional light is provided by a tilt-and-slide glass sunroof. Storage pockets with bottle holders are on all doors. The navigation system controls audio and the climate system through the touch screen at the top of the center stack. The interface is simple and has voice control. Aside from a huge trunk, the rear seat also has plenty of room.
Many useful interior storage spaces are found inside the car. A dual-layer console box/armrest with a power point in the lower section and a cord pass-through to the top for phone charging and a very useful storage box at the bottom of the center stack are just few of the examples.
All Honda Accords have safety features like dual-stage front airbags, front side airbags with a passenger-side occupant detection system, side curtain airbags, daytime running lights, and antilock brakes, which, in V6 models, are four-wheel discs. Vehicle Stability Assist is standard on all V6 models. The Accord receives a five-star frontal impact rating from the U.S. Government and a ``Best Pick'' rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Excellent ride and handling is provided by 17-inch alloy wheels and low-profile, 50-series tires last year. V6 Accords got firmer Honda shock so smooth sailing ride is provided by the vehicle. Changes were not massive, but they result in improved steering response, from the shorter tire sidewalls, and an added improvement in suspension control. Comfort is assured with a more European suspension tuning.
Honda's VTEC variable valve timing system gives the Accord V6 good low- and mid-range power. But the engine still likes to rev from the 5000-rpm torque peak, where 211 lb-ft are produced. Peak horsepower (244) is at 6250 rpm. Shift action is quick and smooth, thus adds enjoyment. Unlike many expensive sports sedans, the Accord V6 uses regular unleaded gasoline, not premium. EPA fuel economy is 21mpg in city and 30 along the highway.

It's not so long ago when everybody wants to own a hybrid vehicle because of its claimed benefits like better fuel economy and lower emission of harmful gases. But surprisingly the new results of the J.D. Power survey reveal that most car owners now prefer diesel cars over hybrids.
Sales of hybrids are observed to be declining reaching an overall drop in sales by almost 7 percent however for buyers with age ranging from 16 to 25 the drop is much higher at 13 percent.
With the turn of events it seems like the whole point of shifting to using hybrid vehicles seems to be fading without us noticing it. This is quite sad especially for the environment which is the main reason why buying hybrid vehicles was advocated. Honda, like most other manufacturers, has placed a premium on their point of sale (POS) products. The most widely circulated of these point of sale products is their individual model brochures.
In this article, we are going to take a thorough look into the 2008 Honda Accord marketing product brochure. This is a 23 page brochure that Honda has invested a tremendous amount of money hoping to persuade the general public that this is more than a car, but an extension of who you are.
"In Developing the new Accord, we considered the road...and everything beyond it." This is the lead in for the brochure. Honda is trying to create the feeling that the 2008 Accord is designed to be than just another car, it's a driving experience.
On Page 4, they cleverly turn the Accord into a personalized driving machine. "To surpass everything we've done before, we've looked for inspiration beyond where it lives to where you live. Precisely tuning the new Accord to the demands of the road, and to desires of its driver." The marketing department wants you to imagine that the new Accord is going to taught the nuances of your driving environment and learn the way you drive on the roads you drive.
Turn a couple more pages and find that even with a Honda, "Sex Sell". "This is about lines and curves and shape. In other words, it's about desire." They mention that the new Accord is designed to invite a stare and that it can stir passion. Everyone wants to seen in the right place with the right people and of course in the right car. Honda has done a great job on this page to address the "Right Car" part of this equation.
As you continue through the brochure, "It's like no other Accord we've ever built. It's like every Accord we've ever built." If it aint broke don't fix it, well Honda knew the Accord was not broken, but they wanted you to know that they completely scrutinized all facets of the Accord and refined all areas to make the latest Accord the greatest Accord.
Honda has always been about its engine. The reliability of a Honda will never be undersold. Now, to go along with the engines unsurpassed reliability, is a new found power plant and environmentally emission friendly design. "It starts with a commitment. It starts with a promise. It starts with an engine."
Of course, Honda had to touch on what is becoming "The Marketing Catch Phrase" "DNA". This is simply what engineers' thought process was when creating the new Accord. They wanted to be environmentally friendly, "Green". They wanted the Accord to be safe and at the same time be fun. They are convinced and wanted to convince you that they have accomplished all the above.
The overall design and layout of the 2008 Honda Accord brochure gets a big thumbs up. American Honda Motor Co. Inc. now releases the details, features, and the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of the 2008 model year Sedan and Coupe variants of the Honda Accord. Both model variants are available with several trim level options with exclusive features for each trim level. The 2008 Honda Accord Sedan will roll out in Honda dealers all over the U.S. starting this September 12, while the 2008 Honda Accord Coupe will go on sale in September 20th.
In a recent press release, Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. commented: "The 2008 Honda Accord adds popular features and enhancements while maintaining competitive, value-oriented pricing on every model. A new, innovative design with improved packaging and even more refined performance adds to the Accord's strong foundation of historically high residual values, renowned manufacturing quality and legendary reliability."
Both the 2008 Honda Accord Sedan and Accord Coupe models are available with either 4-cylinder or V6 engine options. The new 3.5-liter i-VTEC V6 engine is capable of pumping out 268 hp and equipped with a new generation of fuel-saving Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) technology. In addition, this power unit achieves a Partial Zero-Emissions Vehicle (PZEV) rating. The Japanese automaker also recently took the wraps off the new and slightly bigger Honda Accord for the 2008 model year.
The Los Angeles Times reported that the new 2008 Honda Accord look is aggressive, with Honda venturing into the larger car market where competition are the likes of Ford Focus and Toyota Camry.
Chris Martin, a spokesman for Torrance-based American Honda Motor Corporation said, "Americans don't want a car that feels big on the outside, but they definitely want a car that feels like its spacious and luxurious on the inside. We wanted to make the Accord feel bold, roomy and refined."
The new car is 5 inches larger than the current Toyota Camry, sporting a 3% increase in its interior. Last year, the Toyota Camry was able to outsell the Accord with almost 94,000 units.
California has the largest noted car sales for the Honda Accord. It actually ranked next to Toyota Camry last year. "We've been getting so many calls from customers for the car and they haven't even seen a picture of it yet," according to the sales manager Arman Marsoubian.
The 2008 Honda Accord has two coupe and sedan body styles. A new metal sheet is given matched on a more powerful and larger SOHC 3.5-liter iVTEC V6 running on a 268 horsepower and 248 lbs-ft of torque and on five-speed automatic transmission. The coupe version runs on a six-speed automatic transmission.
The sedan version also features the same V6 powertrain part but it was added with new variable cylinder management system that can be used to run either on three, four or six cylinders. The new 19/29 mpg was set as its EPA city/highway mileage giving the new coupe 16/25 mpg mileage as well.
Other options include the two iVTEC 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines running on both 177 horsepower and 190 horsepower respectively. The new car also has both reprogrammed engine control module plus the high-flow exhaust system. These DOHC engines run on 21/31 mpg mileage for its five-speed manual as well as on automatic boxes transmissions. The car also boasts of a more spacious interior.
Honda Accord does not have a hybrid version but the coupe and sedan version will be in showrooms this coming September 12. Prices and other relevant specifications like the Honda cabin filter are not yet revealed but the Japanese car maker promises to bring them out before the date of availability.
